Church of Ascension • Burghclere

Grade II listed.

Built in 1838 and enlarged 1875.

Before this church was built the parish church was All Saints of Old Burghclere which dated from around 1160.

The village population shifted in time and the Church of Ascension became the principal church, while All Saints fell into disuse.

At one time the church also had a spire, but this became dangerous and was removed in the 1960s.

The church also has a very nice example of a lychgate, which if you're not familiar with, I talk more about on my website here.
